Chief's Welcome
Welcome to the Peters Township Police Website. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Douglas Grimes and I have been the Chief of Police for the Peters Township Police Department since August 1, 2016. I began my career in law enforcement in 1984 as a patrolman in Elizabeth Borough and Forward Township in Allegheny County Pennsylvania. In 1987, I left municipal policing and began my career with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP). Over the course of my 29-year career with PSP, I was promoted through the ranks to Corporal in 1993, Sergeant in 2002, Lieutenant in 2007, Captain in 2011, and Major in 2013. Throughout my career with PSP, I was fortunate to have experienced many facets of police work from patrol trooper to criminal investigations, to operations and finally administration. Upon being promoted to Major, I was assigned as the Executive Director of the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission. A position that uniquely prepared me to become the Chief of Police in Peters Township.
Peters Township is a flourishing community that has approximately 23,000 residents. The primary focus of the Police Department is to provide a safe environment for those who reside in, work in, or traverse our community.
The primary focus of our patrol officers is to present a visible deterrent to crime while providing a sense of safety and security for all. We believe it is important to establish a firm relationship with our residents, our business community, and our faith-based community. In our efforts to accomplish this goal, we place a high value on the continued training and professional development of our officers. More specifically, our training focus entails going above and beyond the mandatory minimums established by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission for police officers.
We boast several specialized units within the Department to include Investigations, Bicycle Patrol, Motorcycle Patrol, District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, and School Resource Officers. Additionally, we belong to the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG) which enables us to participate on the SHACOG Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), the SHACOG Support Team (SST), and the SHACOG Crash Reconstruction Team. Each of these specialized units provide support and continued development of our officers’ skill sets not otherwise possible.
This website is intended to provide a technological insight into the services and opportunities offered by our department.
